Top Security Trends from 2010

Our partner, SonicWALL, has just released a report that shows the Global Trends in network and security threats from 2010. We thought we'd give you some insight on what they have discovered.

The most active day for threat-related internet traffic worldwide is Tuesday, with Monday a close second.

The most active time for threat-related traffic in the United States is between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., Eastern Time.

Advertising analytics tracking user profiles are proliferating. In a study on tracking technologies and user privacy, SonicWALL recently collected packet captures from 70 of the Web’s most popular destinations to identify hosts gathering data on private browsing behavior. The information was either used for advertising purposes or company marketing purposes. Results showed that profile tracking occurred in nearly half of all browsing sessions.

Top malware prevalent during year 2010 were Conficker worm, Bredolab Trojans, Zeus Bots, SpyEye Bots, FakeAV Trojans, Oficla Trojans, PDF exploit malware, Java based malwares, and web exploit kits like Gumblar and Phoenix. This year alone, the amount of malware has tripled since 2009.

Phishing fraud continues to be a serious problem. As online transactions continue to grow, the number of e-mails soliciting people to go to bogus Websites increases too. Consumers who enter personal data on the falsified Web pages risk having their identity stolen, their finances hijacked or their computers downloading unwanted and malicious software.

The security of your network is our Number One priority at Integrated IT Solutions. In 2011, we will continue to dedicate time and resources to make certain your network is as safe as it can be.
