Beware of Mobile Device Exploits

We'd like to alert you of a harmful trend we have been noticing lately. Hackers have turned their focus to mobile devices. This week, RIM announced a vulnerability found in some of its Blackberry devices that allowed hackers to gain access to all contact information and images on the BlackBerry Torch. Until they release a hotfix, RIM is recommending that all Blackberry users running OS 6 disable JavaScript for the browser. iPhone, Android, and Windows Mobile users are not immune to vulnerabilities. The iPhone has had hackers launch code that read the log of SMS messages, address book and voicemail data. If you notice anything suspicious or experience performance issues on your smartphone, please call us. We can help determine if you have had a security breach.

Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 Released

IITS has begun extensive testing on Microsoft's newly released service pack for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2. While this service pack is necessary to help keep your PCs and servers on the latest support level, we will not be ready to deploy it on your systems until it has been thoroughly examined by our engineers. We have to be certain that installing this service pack will not impact daily operations and will be compatible with your business applications.

Service Packs provide ongoing improvements to the Windows Operating System (OS), by including previous updates delivered over Windows Update as well as continuing incremental updates to the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 platforms based on customer and partner feedback.

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 will help you:

  • Keep your PCs supported and up-to-date
  • Get ongoing updates to the Windows 7 platform
  • Easily deploy cumulative updates at a single time
  • Meet your users' demands for greater business mobility
  • Provide a comprehensive set of virtualization innovations
  • Provide an easier Service Pack deployment model for better IT efficiency

After we have confirmed the operability of this Service Pack, we will be contacting you to begin deployment. We expect this testing to be completed within the next few weeks. As always, if you'd like more information or have any questions regarding the Service Pack upgrades or any other service offering, please contact your sales rep or email us at
