Apple iOS update

Apple unveiled iOS 9, the latest iteration to its mobile software, at its annual developer conference this week. The new mobile software for iPhones and iPads is focused around proactivity and productivity as well as user privacy. Some of the new features, out this fall, include:

  • Siri improvements - The voice assistant comes with new, more "intelligent" suggestions, and search is improved with greater third-party support.
  • Caller ID - your iPhone now looks into your email to find out who an unknown caller might be, and suggest it right on the screen.
  • Apple Pay Updates - store and reward cards will soon be added to your device, allowing users to add points to their cards on the go. Apple Pay will automatically select the right card.

Windows 10 Release

And on the Microsoft front, Windows 10 is set to be released on July 29th.

Microsoft is still committed to offering Windows 10 as a free upgrade for users of older versions during the new OS's first year.

For the free Win10 upgrade, reservations are required. Basically, you click on a new Win10 icon displayed on the task bar of eligible Windows versions.

Microsoft states that Windows 10's production upgrade will be fast, easy and secure. All documents and files stored on a system will be preserved. Win10 restores the Start menu, promises quick startup, and includes Windows Defender, a free anti-malware solution. It also brings it's version of Siri, called Cortana to the desktop and introduces a new browser, Microsoft Edge which replaces IE. You will also see touch versions of the Office applications.

Windows 2003 End of Life Countdown: 33 Days

We're getting down to the wire now. After July 14, Microsoft will no longer issue security updates for any version of Windows Server 2003. If you are still running Windows Server 2003, you need to take steps now to plan and execute a migration strategy to protect your infrastructure.

You are risking your business data if you remain on Windows 2003. Hackers will exploit the lack of security updates and without a good backup your data could be lost. Call us right away if you haven't begun transitioning.

Skype Translator

Skype Translator, Microsoft's live translation tool, is scheduled to roll out inside the app's desktop software at the end of the summer, delivering real-time translation for voice/video calls and instant messaging. You can speak to someone who speaks a different language; the service adds the other person's translations for you in subtitle format at the bottom of the screen. Right now, the speech function supports English, Spanish, Italian and Mandarin, but if you're conversing via IM, there are 50 more languages added to the list.
